You know your basics and either want to brush up on the more common dentals and procedures or are supplementing your foundational knowledge in Tier 1.

Tier 2: Intermediate

  • DVM Training

    The best training for DVMs at the Entry Level is our Virbac 1 Day Lecture & Wet lab.

    This training is 8 hours of Race approved CE starting with the basics of periodontal disease + wet lab (incl. how to perform a complete dental prophylaxis) followed by a basic extraction wet lab (incl. radiology, pain management, elevation and extraction of single & two rooted teeth).

    An added bonus is that this training is FREE to our DVMs (only cost of travel and accommodation comes from CE allowance).

  • Technician Training

    Our NVA Dental Coordinator provides an excellent intro to dentistry course for Technicians at this level. Partner it with the Anesthesia 101/201 course and your technicians will have a great foundation.

  • Full Team Training

    Midmark’s Best Practices Workshop will get your whole team excited about Dentistry!

    This 8 hours Race approved CE covers why dentistry is important, oral anatomy review, steps to complete an oral exam, the “core” procedure, the “core” team, marketing and client education.

  • Follow-on CE

    Take the next steps in your dental education journey by starting to learn Radiograph interpretation through an online course HERE.

Requirements to move to Tier 2, in addition to Tier 1…

  • Full Mouth Radiographs are being taken on every patien

  • 50% of the DVM’s are confidently performing oral/ periodontal surgery (creating gingival flaps) and extracting major teeth (canines, mandibular molars and maxillary 4th pre-molar and molars)

  • Regional oral nerve blocks are being appropriately placed

  • Go home medication policy is in place (recommended pain medication is not an option for clients)

  • Hospital has participated in non-technical training (client care/best practices)

  • Entire staff is promoting/recommending home care products

  • At least 50% of technicians have been trained in dentistry

  • At least 60% of DVMs have been trained in dentistry

  • 8% of total revenue is generated by dentistry

  • 12% of pets with dental recommendations are being scheduled for treatment

Best Practice recommendations…

  • Specified technician/assistant scheduled to monitor anesthesia for all dental procedures

  • Continued staff participation in ongoing dental and anesthesia CE

  • Creating packaged treatment plans (flat fee pricing structure)

  • Discuss enrolling in PAW with DL

  • Explore advanced treatment options and training needed to acquire new skills

  • Review scheduling policies to see if there is room to expand or create a better daily workflow

  • Ensure technicians and/or assistant are trained in sharpening hand tools (elevators, scalers and luxators)
