DVM Training
The best training for DVMs at the Entry Level is our Virbac 1 Day Lecture & Wet lab.
This training is 8 hours of Race approved CE starting with the basics of periodontal disease + wet lab (incl. how to perform a complete dental prophylaxis) followed by a basic extraction wet lab (incl. radiology, pain management, elevation and extraction of single & two rooted teeth).
An added bonus is that this training is FREE to our DVMs (only cost of travel and accommodation comes from CE allowance).

Technician Training
Our NVA Dental Coordinator provides an excellent intro to dentistry course for Technicians at this level. Partner it with the Anesthesia 101/201 course and your technicians will have a great foundation.

This 8 hours Race approved CE covers why dentistry is important, oral anatomy review, steps to complete an oral exam, the “core” procedure, the “core” team, marketing and client education.

Requirements to move into Tier 1…
An IV catheter is being placed on all dental patients
Pre-Surgical bloodwork is performed within 6 months of the procedure date
Digital dental radiograph equipment/capability
DVMs are comfortable with minor extractions
Dental unit with air compressor and both a high & low speed handpieces
Staff understands and utilizes dental scoring, notating stage of disease in the medical record.
Client education & marketing materials are available and being utilized
At least 20% of technicians have been trained in dentistry
At least 30% of DVMs have been trained in dentistry
5% of total revenue is generated by dentistry
5% of pets with dental recommendations are being scheduled for treatment
Best Practice recommendations…
IV fluid support for all patients having a dental procedure
Creating packaged treatment plans (flat fee pricing structure)
Pre-surgical blood work being scheduled at least 2 days prior to procedure date
50% of the DVMs are confident with minor/single rooted extractions
Staff participating in ongoing dental and anesthesia CE (quarterly or yearly CE goals for L/R/CVT’s and DVM’s)
Non-technical training for client care specialist and assistants (annually or as needed due to turnover)
